Step 2: Determine a plan

The Convergent Assessment

Conquering neck or back-related pain, weakness, exhaustion, and stress is undoubtedly the ultimate goal for any dedicated and motivated person looking to live life to the fullest and reach their full potential.

But neck, mid back, and low back related conditions are not all alike, and do NOT all require the same treatments.

So what exactly should you focus on?  And how?

This detailed assessment will map out your individualized path to recovery and wellness, making sure to assess and address all 5 of the Convergent Pillars of Wellness and Performance.

The Convergent Spine and Nerve Physical Therapy and Wellness program aims to go beyond traditional approaches to rehabilitation by placing direct focus on the Convergent Pillars of Wellness and Performance:

  • State: Balancing stress and recovery
  • Nutrition: Fueling the body with healing nutrition
  • Movement: Enhancing healthy pain-free mobility, strength, endurance, and control
  • Sleep: Discovering truly restful sleep
  • Connection: Developing authentic and meaningful connections with ourselves, others, and our environment

The Convergent Spine and Nerve Physical Therapy and Wellness Program begins with the Convergent Assessment which is approximately 60-90 minutes in length, and always 1-on-1 without distractions.

Dr. Ketselman’s advanced training as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT), credentialing in the McKenzie Method – Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT), and training in wellness, yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation allows Dr. Ketselman to provide a detailed assessment that will map out your individualized treatment approach.

Step 3: Resolve what's holding you back

Neck, Back, and Nerve Condition Recovery

Pain, setbacks, and uncertainty can come in many ways.  Are you currently experiencing neck, mid-back, low-back, or nerve related pain, weakness,  exhaustion, or stress?  If so, be sure to get it examined, evaluated, and treated by Convergent Movement and Performance.

Always remember… you can’t move forward until you resolve what’s holding you back!

The Convergent approach to resolving neck, back and nerve symptoms consist of advanced strategies that are individualized to each person based on type, nature, and characteristics of their condition.

The first thing to understand is that there are 5 primary categories of nerve sensors within our body that pick-up information and may trigger us to experience pain.  No one sensor is more important than another, and ALL have the potential to cause pain when over-stimulated.  This is why a truly comprehensive program must be able to assess and re-balance all 5 of these factors.  The 5 sensors include:

  • Mechanical (related to body postures, movements, loads, and activities; this category is what the majority of traditional physical therapy and orthopedics focuses on)
  • Blood Flow (related to circulation and nutrient delivery throughout your body and to your bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and organs)
  • Immunity (related to acute and chronic inflammation as well as auto-immune conditions)
  • Temperature  (related to environmental temperature, as well as internal temperature which is influenced by circulation, inflammation, other immune factors, metabolism, and hormones)
  • Physical and Emotional Stress (related to various neurotransmitter imbalances and stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline that are released during times of physical and emotional stress or difficulty)

Additionally, in regards to the “mechanical sensor,” did you know that the majority of spinal conditions have one specific direction of movement that will improve the condition, while other movements will worsen the condition?   With this in mind, if you are stretching in every direction and doing all sorts of non-specific exercises, the likelihood of achieving rapid results significantly decreases.

Furthermore, the specific direction or movement CANNOT be determined by X-ray, MRI, or CT Scan.  This is precisely why a generalized neck or back rehabilitation program that is provided to everyone with neck or back pain may not be successful.  It will work for some… and will fail for others.  Are you willing to use up your valuable time waiting to see if a general program will work for you?

If not… the Convergent Assessment will help provide answers on what exactly you should focus on, and how.

The specialized physical therapy approach utilized by Convergent Movement and Performance focuses on conquering pain and returning to the activities you love in as little time as possible.

We work hard to provide you with the ability to mindfully understand exactly what makes you better, what makes you worse, and what is safe and not safe to do.  Gone will be the days of uncertainty and being unsure of what you should and should not do, and what activity might lead to your next twinge or exacerbation.

The end goal is to allow you to be fully independent and capable of understanding and managing your condition without the reliance on healthcare providers.

Important: We guarantee that YOU are the priority.  Services are always provided 1-on-1, with Dr. Gene Ketselman, for the full length of each session.

  • Our complete attention and focus are on you and your needs for the entirety of each session.
  • Rest assured that there will never be other clients, patients, or distractions present… unless you have special requests.
  • Remain confident that ALL of your questions and concerns will be addressed each session, and throughout the course of our time together.
  • You will never feel rushed, dismissed, or pushed away.
  • You will never be handed off to an assistant or aide.
  • You will never be left alone to do exercises, or left alone on ice, heat, or fancy machines that seem “cool” and “feel nice,” but make you question whether they really do anything meaningful.
  • Your sessions will not consist of things that make you think “Well I can just do this at home myself.”

Step 4: Move Forward to Accomplish Your Goals

Wellness Coaching and Fitness

The main objective during this phase is to gradually re-introduce the activities that were previously problematic.  The key during this phase is to re-introduce these activities in a way that does not re-aggravate symptoms or re-enforce the old habits that caused the pain or injury in the first place.

As the previously problematic activities are re-introduced, we begin to focus on developing overall performance based on your specific goals.  At this point, the focus is no longer placed on the injured area, but rather on developing overall health, wellness, and fitness directly related to your personal goals.

Step 5: Realize your full potential
